The Mother of All Trifextra Assignments

It’s Trifextra time. The assignment? “This weekend, we only need 32 words from you, because we’re giving you the 33rd.  Your challenge is to write anything you want, in whichever form you please, so long as your response is exactly 33 words and includes the word ‘mother.'”

So, I figured if putting mother in there one time was the standard, then putting it in there seven times would put me over the top and surely guarantee me a win.  Don’t you think?

The Mother of All Trifextra Assignments

Mother ran in carrying a mother load of Mother Nature books when the motherboard ignited. Her mother of pearl anklet snagged on a Mother Goose plush on the floor and she shouted, “Mother ….!”

And, since my entry is unconventional, the “mother song” accompanying it will be, too.

  1. This is another funny one! I like how you left the last word off…I’m sure she shouted “Mother Goose”, right? 🙂

  2. I love this one. The last line made me laugh out loud.

  3. Jennifer Worrell

Pure awesomeness! I also love the song! Hilarious!

  4. What a mother of an entry. The last line is the bomb.

  5. That’s one way to get the most of our your “mother” 🙂

  6. This was funny. An amazing usage of the prompt.

  7. …Mary!

As a service to Ms ODNT, we should hear 34th word(s).

    Great job as always!

  8. It was Teresa …. 🙂

  9. Yes, I think you should win for getting it in seven times. How did that all fit in 33 words, and still make sense? Great entry.

    • Thanks, Sandra. I don’t know how many motherboards are catching fire in houses filled with Mother Goose books and mother of pearl ankle bracelets but it was fun to imagine.

  10. You probably could’ve done what you just did without sounding so ridiculous. I mean the first sentence is one thing; it makes logical sense. But the second sentence a bit overkill.

  11. Well, if I’d been able to work in Mother Hen, Mother Teresa and mother lover, it probably would’ve made a lot more sense.

It’s really not so far-fetched though. Not five minutes ago, I found myself snagging my anklet on a stuffed toy and belting out a choice expletive. Only in my case, the anklet was turquoise inlay, the plush was SpongeBob and I screamed something unintelligible in German.

Yeah. None of that’s true. But it would’ve been a fortuitous little accident, yes?

  12. That is GREAT how you made yourself run out of words right at the ‘mother ***!’ From the above comment, I now know that the next word would have been ‘Teresa.’ What a beautiful Mother’s Day Sentiment 😀

  13. This was the mother of all posts, to be sure. 😆

  14. A ha ha ha! I agree with Tikktok wholeheartedly. Do you think you pushed this envelope to perfection, or what? I’m still grinning … all the way down here!

  15. You took the prompt and blew it wide open! Nicely done.

  16. Haha yeah very funny! well done.

  17. Well, I’ll be a wide eyed mother…

That’s really funny. I loved the mother load of mother nature books. I’m trying to imagine a character who would wear a mother of pearl anklet and carry around the mother nature books to her computer. Three contrasting images there!

  18. Ok, go on, as a special exception this week, you can have 34 words. Just don’t tell anyone else. As usual, this is a great response to the prompt. Thanks for linking up.
